CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF POPULATIONS OF VALERIANA CARNOSA SM (CAPRIFOLIACEAE) DISTRIBUTED IN THE SOUTH-CENTRAL ANDES

Valeriana carnosa SM (Caprifoliaceae), a native specie to Chile, is distributed from the Maule Region Tierra del Fuego. The rhizomes and roots have been used treat different diseases as an infusion, mainly due wide spectrum of chemical compounds with biological concern. This research consisted in carrying out characterization evaluation antioxidant activity V. natural populations central-southern part Chile. extracts was carried by GC-MS, showing that rhizome for both Laguna Laja National Park Malalcahuello Reserve showed higher percentage sesquiterpenes, fatty acids alkanes. On other hand, leaf Antuco site presented abundance alkanes Malalcahuello, phytosterols. Significant differences were demonstrated according IC50 values (157.6 154.8 μg/ml) at sites, however, extracts, (450.33 μg/ml). ABTS, had same trend polyphenol content, evaluated Folin-Ciocalteu method.
